Iran warns of Israel’s covert nuclear weapons program
Iran has warned
against the “serious danger” of Israel’s clandestine nuclear program,
urging the international community to act responsibly to counter it.
“The Zionist regime (Israel) has not joined any of the treaties on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the regime’s covert nuclear weapons program, [which is] not under international supervision, poses a serious danger to the countries in the region and across the world,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham told ISNA on Saturday.
It is necessary that the international community deal with the issue responsibly, she added.
Afkham’s remarks came after Western countries once again on Friday blocked a resolution proposed to the UN nuclear agency which criticized Israel’s undeclared nuclear arms.
The draft was put forward by 32 countries during the annual General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the Austrian capital, Vienna, to criticize Israel’s refusal to acknowledge its possession of nuclear weapons.
The proposed resolution was rejected by 51 votes against 43. Thirty-two countries abstained.
The Iranian spokesperson said the Western countries’ “no” vote to the resolution against the Israeli regime showed they were continuing their double standards in dealing with weapons of mass destruction.
“Excluding the Zionist regime from laws and regulations on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction will have negative consequences for the process of curbing this international threat,” Afkham stated.
She once again reiterated Iran’s “completely explicit and clear” stance on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the establishment of a Middle East region free of such arms.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Friday expressed grave concern over Israel’s undeclared nuclear arsenal, saying it presents the greatest threat to the peace and security in the Middle East.
Israel is widely believed to be the only possessor of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, with estimated 200-400 nuclear warheads.
The Israeli regime rejects all regulatory international nuclear agreements, particularly the NPT, and refuses to allow its nuclear facilities to come under international regulatory inspections.
US attack on Syria is an attack on Russia: Analyst
The United States and US-sponsored militants “staged” the recent
chemical weapons attack in Syria and blamed it on the Syrian government
to lay the groundwork for a military attack, Lihn Dihn said on Saturday.
Washington accuses the government of President Bashar al-Assad of launching a deadly chemical weapons attack on August 21. Damascus denies the allegation.
“This whole focus on chemical weapons has been a ruse for the US to attack Syria,”
“The US stated that it would attack Syria if it used chemical weapons, but the Syrian government has no need and no incentive to do this-Syria has been winning the war conventionally against the US-sponsored terrorists,” Dihn said.
“So the US and its terrorists staged the recent gas attack just to blame it on the Syrian government,” he added.
“The problem is hardly anyone believes the US’s ridiculous explanation, its accusation against the Syrian government without any evidence whatsoever, and even those who are sucked in by the American propaganda see no justification for an American attack on Syria.”
Dihn explained that the reason why the US is “so anxious to attack Syria has nothing to do with chemical weapons but a desire to get rid of Assad so a pipeline could be built to pump natural gas from Qatar to the European Union, thus reducing Europe’s dependence on Russian natural gas.”
“A new Syrian government would also get rid of the Russian naval base in Syria,” he added. “So, you see, an attack on Syria is actually an attack on Russia itself, and that’s why Russia is not backing down.”
US President Barack Obama will use his Tuesday's address to the United Nations in New York to demand that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad step down, according to US officials.
“The US government will keep imposing outrageous conditions on Syria, however, because its ultimate aim is to attack Syria,” Dihn concluded.

Israeli forces attack a West Bank event
Israeli
forces attack a West Bank event organized by European diplomats.
Israeli troops used force to disperse a group of European diplomats who
were trying to hand out tents to Palestinian Bedouins in the West Bank.
The diplomats had accompanied aid workers to distribute tents and other
relief supplies to Bedouins whose houses had been destroyed by the
Israeli military. On Monday, the Israeli military
demolished houses constructed by the Bedouins in the West Bank. So far,
the EU has failed to show any reaction to the attack on its diplomats.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Western countries again rejected a proposal
drafted by Arab states and some other governments expressing concern
about Israel’s nuclear capabilities. It was proposed at an International
Atomic Energy Agency meeting in the Austrian capital, Vienna. 43
Western countries voted against it while 51 others abstained. Israel is
believed to be the sole owner of nuclear weapons in the region. It’s
estimated that Tel Aviv has stocked up hundreds of nuclear warheads.
Back in 2008, former US president Jimmy Carter also confirmed Tel Aviv’s
possession of 150 nuclear warheads. Share us your input about Israel’s
settlement activities on Palestinian lands.
