It’s
been 12 years since the US invaded Afghanistan to push al-Qaeda
terrorists out of the country following the 11th of September incident.
Now al-Qaeda is fighting in the same front of US-backed insurgents in
Syria. The Taliban is also holding talks with Washington to get involved
in the political process. As the date for the US troop withdrawal
looms, Washington is keen to strike a
security deal with President Karzai before the upcoming Afghan
presidential election. The US aims to keep a permanent military base in
Afghanistan as it has lost the war there amid the ongoing violence,
civilian casualties, foreign troops’ fatalities and further production
of narcotics.
