Russia’s Putin slams US president remarks on Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin has censured remarks by US President Barack Obama about Americans being ‘exceptional.’

Putin wrote in an article published by the New York Times on Wednesday, “It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation.”

President Obama made a speech on September 10, where he addressed the issue of Syria and said, “I believe we should act. That’s what makes America different. That’s what makes us exceptional. With humility, but with resolve, let us never lose sight of that essential truth.”

Obama also claimed that American ideals and principles “are at stake in Syria.”

Washington holds the Syrian government responsible for a deadly chemical attack on the outskirts of Damascus on August 21. Syria categorically rejects the accusation.

President Putin also mentioned in his article, “We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.”

He urged the Americans to be cautious in dealing with the issue of Syria.

Putin also censured the warmongering policies of the United States.

“It is alarming that military intervention in internal conflicts in foreign countries has become commonplace for the United States.”

The Russian president denied the Western allegations that Damascus was behind the August chemical attack

Putin warned that a US attack on Syria could spread the conflict in the country, “result in more innocent victims” and unleash a wave of terrorism worldwide.
