Navy vessels equipped with drones: Iran cmdr.

Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says all Navy vessels are equipped with drones capable of flying over the sea.

“All of our [Navy] vessels are equipped with drones and all of them have the capability to fly over the sea,” Sayyari told reporters on Saturday.

The senior Iranian commander also said that the country plans to unveil the indigenous Fateh (Victor) submarine by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 20, 2014).

Iran has so far launched different classes of advanced submarines including Ghadir, Qaem and Nahang. Iran's Navy also launched the super-heavy Tareq 901 submarine, overhauled by Iranian experts.

In September 2012, Sayyari said the Islamic Republic “has reached the threshold of self-sufficiency in manufacturing, equipping and repairing the most complicated and modern types of submarines in the world.” He added that the production of submarine equipment has also been completely localized over the past decade.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has also held several military drills to enhance the defense the capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

Iran has repeatedly said its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
